Maybe that’s why the male of the species is scarce. There are only so many millionaire males out interested in find a date online. But if you ask me, more women is better than more men anytime.

Site #3 above, OkCupid, is one of the sites that were previously free. In fact, it has gone from paid to free to paid again (or semi-paid). It is also one of those that have been taken over by the big guys, having been acquired by Match.com. Funny, that it would be criticizing big sister. Well, just like in my family.

What You Need To Know About The Different Dating Sites

Many articles, including well-researched and well- written ones as the above-quoted, tend to lump large dating sites together as though they are all the same. They are not.

You see, while Match.com and FriendFinder.com may appear the same, they serve a completely different clientele and even purpose. Match serves are more serious clientele that may be seeking serious relationships (but not necessarily marriage). FriendFinder serves a younger clientele that may be seeking fun dates.

Reminds me of a scene from the discontinued show Boston Legal, when Denny Crane (William Shatner) goes to meet his online date for the first time. She shows up alright, and she is every bit as pretty as she appeared in her profile, except for one thing. She is a little person, something she did not state in her profile. After Denny gets through the initial shock and disappointment, the relationship blossoms into a hot romance full of shenanigans and comedy that stretches several episodes. You even envy the couple. But that is Hollywood.

We too hope other dating sites follow this lead. It is not hard to verify a person's age using readily-available public records. It could help discourage lying in the first place since no-one in their right state of mind wants to get caught. It appears like popular dating site, Match.com has been getting quite a bit of negative media attention lately. Following a lawsuit in which a woman was reportedly sexually assaulted by a man she met on the site, Match.com implemented screening members for sexual offenders (see video below). I said it then, and I will say it now, screening may help keep out convicted sexual offenders, but it is not a guarantee of safety.

You see, there are many first time offenders waiting to happen. There are many others who have not yet been convicted, either because they have not been caught in the first place or they got away (law courts and the judicial system are far from perfect). And let's not forget that bars and singles clubs do not screen people. Nothing can ever replace caution and diligence. Bad things can still happen even when one is careful (unfortunately we can’t think of everything) but one’s due diligence is still a must. Okay, back to Match.com.

Jane Robison, a spokeswoman for Los Angeles County prosecutors, says Alan Wurtzel also was sentenced Monday to five years of probation and was ordered to register as a sex offender and complete a year of counseling.
Wurtzel pleaded no contest last month to one count of sexual battery by restraint.

First of all, the headline phrase "online dating assault" is a misnomer. I know, it gets attention, which drives readers to the news article. But no one gets assaulted in online dating. It just can't happen. The assault did not happen online but offline, though the date started online.

Now, does this mean that Match.com is any less safe than other dating services? Hmm… I don't think so. Why?

You see, Match.com is the largest dating site on the web. This means it has the highest number of people from all walks of life. Even criminals know how to play the numbers game and will go where they will likely find as many potential victims as possible. In fact, if you consider the sheer number of members on Match.com compared with other sites', Match might be the safest site out there.

It appears that the site is a blend between online dating, speed dating and social networking. I like it that you and your friend can bring a friend along and double-date or even group-date. Now, I am not endorsing Match.com either, as the right dating site for one person is not necessarily so for another. But the good thing about Match.com is that it does a good job of bridging the gap between a dating site and a matchmaking site. What is the difference?

Well, the difference between a dating site and a matchmaking site is that a dating site is just that; a dating site. You post a personal profile hoping that someone will find you interesting and then browse other people's profiles who too are hoping that you will find theirs interesting. If and when a connection is made, you hope that the two of you will click.

As for a matchmaking site, it is made for people seeking serious relationships or marriage. It is personality-based, and in most cases will do the matching for you based on your personality as opposed to physical attributes. Match.com can allows you to find matches as well as finding matches for you.

None is in a better position to give you advice about how to find your soulmate online than one who has "been there, done that". There are people who believe that happily married couples tend to look alike. Could your soul mate also be your “face mate”? Well, new dating site appears to believe so. FindYourFaceMate.com matches singles not online personality but on “facial compatibility”. They use facial recognition software to find someone who looks like you.

New Yorker Christina Bloom launched the site back in March and started investigating the theory of a "face mate" 20 years ago when she married a man who looked very similar to her.
In the three months it has been up, the site already has almost 25,000 members worldwide. And it's free! According to the Daily Mail, Bloom, 54, said, "I'm not in this for the money. I really believe in the science behind it and I want to help people meet their soul mates. It's really hard to meet people these days and even harder to find that special chemistry."
The theory may work. If you look around at couples there are several happy ones who look like a mirror image of each other. Bloom gives some examples; Prince Charles and Camilla, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, Iman and David Bowie, Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton, and Heidi Klum and Seal.
Kerri Johnson, an assistant psychology professor at UCLA, told GMA that, "There is evidence that general liking improves when people look like you."

Well, I have seen couples who look as unalike as giraffe and a zebra, but who were perfectly happy together. I have also seen couples who might be mistaken for siblings but whose relationship did not last or if it did it was because of other reasons (children, for example).
