It used to be that one would feel embarassed to tell even his/her closest confidant that he/she was even thinking of dating online. How things have changed. This article tells it extremely well, I think.
Is Online Dating A Household Word?
by Seana Mulcahy
I remember a few years ago, my mom whispered the words, “Online dating.†It was her answer to how a friend of ours met her boyfriend. Our friend was divorced with grown kids. She spent the bulk of her time working and with her family. She wasn’t in the dating scene at all. I always remember hoping she’d meet someone because she is such a great lady.
One day I was at her house for a visit. She was beaming. Without a blink of an eye, she announced to us that she was in love and we just HAD to meet this guy. She said she’d never had such a connection with anyone. When my ultra-conservative mother asked where she’d met him, our friend bellowed, “ONLINE!†My mom’s jaw dropped...

After a couple of emails, Maureen and I decided to live on the edge and meet for a glass of wine, which got delayed by some unexpected family problems.
I eventually went to over to Maureen's place of employment just to say hello. After a quick meeting, we decided to meet for lunch two days later. Our first lunch date was great. We talked about our interests, our families, and what we were looking for in life. Afterward, we walked back to my car to take her back to work. It was there we shared our first kiss, and from there we never looked back. We began dating each other exclusively, and after a few short months fell deeply in love. Our families both accepted our new partners, and everything fell into place just as we believe God had planned it.
On July 15, 2005, Maureen’s daughter Casey was married. The very next day I proposed to Maureen, and she accepted. On November 12, 2005, we exchanged vows in a lovely garden wedding in Huntington Beach, CA.
We have been growing in love each day, and still we are amazed that we were so blessed to find each other.

118 online dates, for those keeping score at home
By Angela Benfield
After jettisoning the perfect Mr. Wrong, I was ready, at the ripe young age of 39, to throw in the towel on finding even a slightly unperfect Mr. Right. Then, a good friend, one with a shiny new beau, encouraged me to get modern and try online dating. When I hesitated, she pointed out how easily the computer helps separate the dudes from the duds. OK, maybe I was up for just one more dive into the dating pool.
Turns out, that pool is Olympic-sized. The U.S. online dating industry is worth about $500 million and is expected to climb 9 percent a year. And according to revenuetoday.com, there are 33 million U.S. adult singles online and open to pursuing a relationship. Reasoning that more than a handful were in the Greater New York environs, I started to investigate.
It was clear from the get-go I was going to have to revamp my date-and-mate routine. My orientation was strictly bar scene pickups...

For those who doubt that online dating works, here's an interesting piece of news about a Jewish girl who once shared your doubts. An interesting reading for members of the Jewish community who at times find themselves out-numbered by other communities.
Ukrainian Jewish Online Dating Helps Small, Scattered Community

KIEV, Ukraine - A few months ago, Natalia Loshakova did not believe in online dating.
After all, the Jewish Dnepropetrovsk native has many friends, and is "not desperate," she says.
It still feels awkward, says Loshakova, 22, to check her e-mail first thing in the morning, and she's not used to looking forward to the phone calls she gets from the man she met on www.mazeltov.org.ua, a new Dnepropetrovsk-based Web site for Jewish singles.

Do you consider yourself rather good-looking? Do you consider yourself above average in relation to other singles? Have you ever considered online dating?
If you answered yes to all three questions, I have good news! You may be qualified to join HotEnough.org, a new online dating Web site. But wait - don't bank on becoming a member that easily. Before you can join, the other members must vote on you to make sure that you are, indeed, "hot enough" to join.
That's right, this is one dating Web site that is intentionally trying to attract a certain group of singles: the attractive kind.
Here's the site description:
"Attractive, fit singles like you deserve an above average dating pool and the leading online dating sites just don't meet that standard. Online dating sites are a great way to meet that future soul mate - much better than trying to make a connection at a bar or club. Yet, on most leading dating sites, it simply takes too long to sift through the swarm of photos, e-mails and teases to find a compatible match.
